Hope everyone had a happy and safe 4th of July. Community Swap Shop is busy and growing everyday thanks to all of you. Our members are making money and our advertisers are getting some business. I myself made some money on some craft items I don't use anymore and we've heard rumors of deals on mountain bikes, air conditioners, antiques and boats. Those are just the items we've heard about so not bad for a brand new website. We are very excited to be adding Lowell, Massachusetts to our regions list thanks to the enthusiasm of people in that area. If you've made a deal let us know about it. We'd love to hear from our members via this blog.

We really hope that our members will have the opportunity to recycle some of their things in an easy, new fangled way with their neighbors and friends and contribute to their local communities. We keep driving this point home because we believe that everyone's quality of life starts in their own backyard and in their own community. Please visit our advertisers. We Hate Spam Too!
I was contacted by a member in one of our regions recently about some spam she received and thought it came through our system as a result of her signing up as a Member and posting some listings. It turns out that it did not come from us but she had some very good questions that I thought would be important to share. Most important--we DO NOT share your information with any third parties. Our members email addresses are only added to our newsletter list so they can receive updates on what's happening with our site. Occasionally you may receive an email from us letting you know of a technical issue or some important update but otherwise you will rarely receive email from us. It's important to note that spamming is an unfortunate part of the internet world and we can't possibly prevent all of it. Please be sure your spam filters are up to date and you have the appropriate virus protection on your computers. If you think you've received spam through someone using our site please let us know. We take this very seriously.

- This site started when my husband and I wanted to sell a couple of kayaks. We were frustrated by the other larger websites with auction models or long lists of items to sift through. We knew there had to be a better way for people to buy, sell and trade on a more local level. We wanted a small Sunfish sailboat and thought-wouldn't it be great if we could find someone to trade with? Our site wasn't up at the time so we sold the kayaks and no Sunfish but the experience led us to the great experience of putting this site together. In the past I've been an advocate for children with special needs, a retail shop owner, landlord and residential and commercial real estate broker. Although I have enjoyed all of my various careers this is by far the most fun. In these tough economic times, we hope our members will find the goods and services they need to either buy or sell through creative new relationships and that in doing so they will foster the well being of their own communities. I am an entrepreneur at heart and having the time of my life doing this. I hope you will too!
